WINDOWS MEMORY MANAGEMENT

Throught the years of Microsoft and it Windows servers, the issue of the Windows Memory Management mechanism has caused a lot of troubles to many Windows Servers - especially servers sunning MSSQL, Exchange Servers, IIS server - SMB servers etc.
This Article s offering useful information about the Memory Management problems and additonal issues of Windows such as CPU performance management, and more than that – the artticle offers some solutions as well.
In addition – you can find useful collection of RSS feeds related to memory management in general, CPU performance management, and more.
Q: So? What is the problem really?
A: Windows Servers in particular, are suffering from many problems of memory management – meaning the management of the Virtual memory required for the operating system to function normally.
For example – take a standard Windows SMB server running Exchange, MSSQL, IIS, and perhaps one or more additional software packages – and you get a server that reaches about 4GB RAM of virtual memory utilization !!!
The way Windows OS manages the limit of the actual RAM that’s physically installed on a server, is by managing a SWAP file – and of course… the larger the SWAP file is… the slower your server runs.
So – you could say: “The cost of additional RAM for a server is a couple hundred bucks… why not purchase some more RAM, install more memory on the server… and problem is solved?
Not so simple… upgrading the virtual memory of a server to more than 4GB RAM, requires the upgrading of the software license from Microsoft… and that would cost in couple of thousands dollar more…
